On Sunday, January 9, 2005, the congregation unanimously approved the call for Rev. Robert F. Field to be our Pastor. Rev. Field comes to us from the Presbyterian Church of Stanley in Overland Park, Kansas. Pastor Bob will bring to us his gifts of preaching, teaching, administration, pastoral care, and encouragement of ministries in others.
We truly believe that God led Pastor Bob to us and at the same time led us to Pastor Bob. We are very excited and joyous in having Pastor Bob Field as our Pastor.
Praise the Lord!
From Rev. Robert Field…
Long ago, the Psalmist wrote, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) As I reflect upon my life and ministry, I cannot think of very many days when, at the end of the day, those words have not been in my heart and on my mind. God has richly blessed me with loving family and friends, and in leading me to serve in six wonderful, and yet very different congregations. My life began in Collinsville, Illinois, a small town in southwestern Illinois. My “church life” began shortly after, when I was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville, where members of my family have been active since the 1840’s. Much of my growing-up took place in that church, as a child, youth, and young adult. In 1970, I graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Also, in 1970, the Pastor and Session of my home church encouraged and supported my plans to explore a call to ministry. In 1973, I received my M.Div. degree from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. That summer I was called to serve as the Pastor of Rock Presbyterian Church in Imperial, Missouri. I continued to serve churches in the St. Louis, Missouri area as pastor and associate pastor, until 1992. In 1992-1993, I was given the opportunity to give back to my home church some of the love and care that I had received during my growing-up years – I was invited to serve as their Interim Pastor. The time there was an amazing gift! Since October 1993 I have been serving as the Associate Pastor for Adult Ministries / Congregational Life at the Presbyterian Church of Stanley in Overland Park, Kansas. It has been an enjoyable and challenging eleven years, as we have worked to include people in ministry in a congregation that has grown to over 1,400 members in the twenty-five years of its existence.
I am truly fortunate to be married to my best friend and partner in life and ministry. My wife, Debbie, is a middle school math teacher, and an ordained Presbyterian elder and deacon. We are the parents of three adult daughters, Kelley and Lauren Field, who live and work in St. Louis, and deMauri Mackie, who is in her junior year at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Debbie and I are involved in Marriage Enrichment and enjoy boating, camping, hiking, and flyfishing, especially in the mountains of southwestern Colorado.
Rev. Field began in the pulpit March 6, 2005. He was installed as our Pastor on March 20, 2005.
